Founded in 2007 by cycling enthusiasts, Cargobike of Sweden is the original and biggest-selling cargo bike company in Sweden. Having now also expanded into neighbouring Denmark, the bikes are sold direct to consumers as well as through multiple retailers. The bikes are also used by a variety of businesses as a means of sustainable transport and delivery. Designed and assembled in Sweden, its products cater to the challenging local climate, with a focus on craftsmanship, safety, knowledge and service.

Space to grow but also connect

In late 2021 the team at Cargobike decided to relocate their headquarters in Malmö and had numerous requirements to fulfil. They needed more room where they could develop and market the bikes. They needed an enlarged assembly hall which would speed up production and more storage space for stock reserves to support future growth. Most importantly, they needed to be close to Malmö city centre so their customers could easily try out their products and so their employees could cycle to work.

A home with its own history

The team instantly fell in love with the history at Tobaksfabriken which Mileway was redeveloping at the time, and had been the home of Malmö’s tobacco industry for 40 years from the 1960s. Working with Mileway team, the Cargobike team were able to co-design a unit for their specific needs, and equip it with workshops, studios, offices, warehouse space, a showroom (including a ramp) and a chill out zone for employees . Since moving into the space in February 2022, the company’s growth story has continued. After success in Sweden and Denmark, it is further ramping up production and eyeing expansion across Europe, which it can manage from the Malmö site.
